Mine worked perfect for my DET install for about 70k. Then, being an idiot
and roasting some tires in the corporate parking load, I blew up the spring
hub on the OEM style disc. Since the PP seemed like it was working well
before my abuse, I replaced the disk only. The new set up was exactly like
you are mentioning, ie., it won't fully dissengage when the pedal is fully
depressed. It would grinch second and thrird gear every time I shifted
unless I double clutched. I ended up adjusting up the pedal and cable to
"almost preloading the PP" and it worked acceptable again. My thought was
that maybe the clutch disk was out of specification and was too thick or the
PP was in a weird failure mod. A thick disk would do the same thing as we
are describing. The pressure plate itself does not move very much. Add a
1/16 of an inch to the disk material, which you most likely couldn't tell
with your eye, and the PP might not be able to travel enough to dissengage
the surfaces.... Just a thought. Time to get back to playing engineer
trying to figure out what to do with some 60 year old Cesium.....

Oh, I went down to Portland on Saturday and collected my new old 1972 Datsun
510. It is a basket case. No rust but it got hit hard in the drivers rear
corner and is fairly stripped. It will be a long involved project but
should be fun. I just had to return to my roots! I am not sure what engine
I will put into it. The cars are pretty light but the engine bay is REALLY
short making it a tight fit for many types of swaps. According to a group
of Aussies, the CA18DET weights only a couple of pounds more than the L-16
that originally came in the car. Hmmmmm? But Dave coleman doesn't
reccomend a turbocharged engine in the old 510 because it ruins the off
throttle over steer factor the car is known for... The SR20DET weighs
nearly as much as the FJ20T, which is heavy! Who'd a thunk?? The weights
are with the engine fully assembled with all accessories. It didn't include
the VG30 nor the KA24E nor DE in the matrix. My plan is to build a
track/auto-X car that is marginally streetable. No gravel, sorry Dave C.
Have a good one.
