A variant of the X-TRAIL has been powered by the SR20VET for a couple of
years. Here's a an excerpt from an October 2000 news release:

http://www.nissan-global.com/GCC/Japan/NEWS/20001019_0e.html
"The turbocharged GT model, scheduled for release in February 2001, is
powered by the newly developed SR20VET engine. This 2.0-liter 4-cylinder
engine is the world's first turbocharged engine to incorporate a variable
valve lift and timing (VVL) system, enabling it to generate 280 PS (206 kW)
of power for exhilarating acceleration. In addition, torque output in the
low to medium speed ranges has also been increased for improved driveability
in urban areas as well."

Freshalloy.com also lists the SR20VET in its engine matrix. That means we
may not have to wait too many years for these motors to appear through
salvage. The challenge of integrating this motor into an older platform
may be greater than it seems, however. Those experienced with motor
transplants can probably answer this topic better.
