Loud engine clatter after turbo install.

Hi there, list. We've finally finished the turbo install on my '93 G20,
and after starting the car for the first time, we quickly noticed a
*very loud*, RPM-dependent clattering noise comming from the engine
(seems like the top) that doesn't seem to want to go away after about 45
seconds of idling. Worrying to say the least. Looking through the
archives suggests that the hydraulic lash adjusters are the culprit in
this case, and they may need to be bled. The car was sitting on the
stands for about 3 weeks without any oil in it. Can HLA get "oh shit"
loud when they clatter? I never noticed any noise from them before. We
are going to pull the valve cover to take a look, but I thought I'd
first check here for advice.
Thanks in advance,
Neall.
