*****You didn't mention the spring rates you are
running, but based on your ride height I'd say you are
bouncing on the bump stops. A 2" drop with 'moderate'
spring rates and stock length strut bodies will put
you precariously close to bottoming out the strut.
Chances are, the car is essentially resting on the
bump stops now, so your struts are doing the job of
damping your current spring rate PLUS the bump stops
themselves (which are infinitely stiffer than your
springs when fully compressed).
You have a few options, the best one being to
simply raise the ride height. This will require a
fresh alignment naturally. The second option is
stiffer spring rates, and cut-down bump stops (do not
remove them completely!). I run 500/300 springs on my
daily driver Sentra (1.6 as well!), and it does not
bottom out, even in aggressive driving. In fact it
rides quite well. BUT, I have modified my strut tubes
to increase compression travel, and I have 'only'
lowered the car by 1.75". The car does not bounce. I
also have Koni inserts. They ride far better than the
AGX's I just removed from the car, FWIW.
