Couldn't you just do the old posi-check trick; pick up the front end,
and rotate on wheel by hand.  If the other tire turns the same
direction, it's LSD-equipped.  If the other tire turns the opposite
direction, it's open.  Do VLSDs even operate at such low speeds?
