I have to aree with George on this one.  As far as mechanic air tools I
mainly use the impact wrench.  The air ratchet sits in my tool box for years
at a time without use.  On the other hand the sanders, grinders, shear etc..
get used for body work and stuff like that.  For the guy just starting out
get yourself a good set of hand tools first. Craftman if you must, Snap-On
if you can afford them.  I do 90% of my work with my 3/8 deep socket set.
The 1/2 inch stuff gets used on suspension stuff and stubborn bolts.  I only
go all air when I am in a hurry ( like reducing a SE-R to a pile of parts in
less than 2 days ).  Then it is not as much fun.  I work on cars because I
like it and hand tools are part of what I like.

If you are going to sandblast or paint THEN you gotta have air.
