First of all, he probably did not do it wrong, but what he is seeing is one
of two things that will happen with slotted rotors.

Think of the Slot like a Cheese grater as the Pads run across the slots,
whats gonna happen, it's gonna shave the Pad materiel off and end up in the
slots.

The other thing that can happen with slotted rotors is that material is
removed from the pad, picked up by the pad, then redeposited just after the
slot causing a warped rotor sensation.

Solid vented rotors are the best way to go for brakes, why do you think
that Porsche removes it's slotted cross drilled rotors from track cars and
puts solid vented discs on???? Cause they work the best!
