I did the same thing on my 91' - worked great.  This was when I was going to
buy the pacesetter one but everyone was out of stock at the time.

I cut the shaft 1" and relocated the pivot ball up 1/2" and pinned it.  Much
tighter throws and about the limit without needing to pound the upper
catalytic heat shield for clearance.

Totally cheap and still retained the stock threads for the stock shift knob
(I cut the 1" out of the middle and had it tig'd).

I had pictures of the mod on sr20deforum if anyone wants to look.
