That's what I've been wondering.  I think it's poppycock, but I could be
wrong.  The only way something will get into the combustion chamber is when
the exhaust valve is open.....  EXHAUSTING the burned mixture.

That is my point.. doesn't a vacuum have to exist for it to get "sucked"?
even under engine braking the flow is still one direction, right? if there
was any kind of backflow, wouldn't that upset the cylinder cycle and cause a
misfire or detonation?
