Let me start by saying I've had the Kumhos on my '92 SE-R for a year now and
I love them. I have done track events, auto-x events and regular street
driving with them. I have to say, for the $ you can't beat them. Yes, there
may be better out there but these tires are damn good for the price.
David Chien wrote about the Kumhos:
"But the moment you get into some trouble, they fall flat on their face and
suprise you by slipping, skidding, and generally failing to grip like you
expected they should, even at a lower level of expectation!"
Never had that problem.
Did you try the two tires on the same day, with the came car, on the same
track ect..... Your problem could simply be different road conditions. You
may need to do your testing under better "controlled" circumstances.
Or, you need to set your car up differently for different tires for maximum
performance from each.
"you have to simply accept that the back end will
fly all over the place in hard cornering and breaking, and if that's
your thing, then there you go - wonderfully easy drifts"
Again, never had that problem. When I want to drift I drift, when I don't
want to drift I don't. Also if the side walls are softer, then wouldn't the
front "push" out more thus neutralizing the the over-steer effect you
described?
"Once the grip goes, good luck --
it'll take a while of slowing down before they (Kumhos) grab again."
And the RE730's just grip ALL the time so you don't have to slow down at all
to regain grip? Wow!
And for those of you complaining about you cars being loud or noisy - come
on, almost any performance mod you make will make the car louder. If you
don't like it loud keep it stock or buy ear plugs.
