Yep, for the most part.

IMO, the area is not that important. The actual
contact area will depend mostly how you choose to jack
the car up. Big press area can easily result in small
contact area when jacking up the car.

I would care more about the height. Many of the heavy
duty jacks will come w/ high initial height. And you
might not be able to slide it under your car if you
lower your car by 1 or 2 inches. On the other hand,
the final lift height is somewhat important.  But you
can always re-jack the car with wood pieces between
the jack and car.

Sears is good for their life time warranty. However, I
have been using the Pepboys' special jack that costed
me like twenty bucks w/ no problem. Jack stands are
pretty cheap too....make sure you use the one that are
beefy enough because your life depends on it.
