Actually it is a big question mark as to wither or not your insurance will
cover it. It would appear that insurance companies are adding exclusions
for even driving schools now. Below is what Allstate has added to there
insurance policies as an exclusion for coverage.

when using the insured vehicle at a track or course designed for racing,
or in practice or preparation for any use of this type.

The key is "in the using a vehicle at a track". This would apply to open
track events driving school or not. If you have ever had any dealing with
Allstate then you have my sympathy. You can be assured that they will pull
everything they can to stop from paying even legitimate claims let alone a
questionable claim from a drivers education event. Auto cross events would
not be covered because they are timed. I think all insurance companies
already have that as an exclusion.

Let me also take a moment and introduce myself as this is my first post. I
joined the list for a couple of reasons. One is that I had a 93 SE-R until
a guy (State Farm Insurance and not with Allstate at least) ran a red light
and totaled it back in 96. I loved that car. It was the first car that I
had purchased new for myself. Great performance for the price of the car.
Also really an easy car to service even though I still have never seen an
oil filter in that kind of location on any other type of car.

Now I am looking to buy a 2002 SE-R. I need an automatic that will be a
daily driver and one that I would consider auto crossing. I have a 98 Cobra
that really needs to be a dedicated open track car (just to many
modifications to make it a good street car anymore) and I would like to
start auto crossing when I can. I really want to have a car that I can have
fun in and drive to work everyday. That is what I am hoping that the SE-R
will give me. I joined the list to get info on what to expect out of these
cars and just general information about performance and trouble problems.

This is what I found out; if I were at the track racing and wreck my Spec V,
>my car insurance won't cover it. They went on and said they would drop me if
>I race it and they find out. So, even if I had the time; I won't be going to
>the track to race any time in the immediate future.

>I'm curious if there are any racing friendly insurance companies out there?
>What insurance do you use?

>I know that the SCCA includes insurance in there membership; does anyone
>have any opinions with there coverage? I mostly want to Autocross my car.
>I'm not to interested in drag racing. I went to an autocross a month ago
>and spectated; it looked like a lot of fun.
