Green fade question

I was just reading Kojima's garage and something confused me. If green fade
is the result of out-gassing from a set of new pads, why the does brake
pedal go straight to the floor when green fade is experienced.
>From the explanation of green fade as I understand it, the pads "float" on a
layer of gas excreted from the brake pads. So there is no physical contact
between the brake pad and the rotor. Hence, no braking.

There is a story about a guy in a Prelude who crashed at Sebring and was
nearly killed by the phenomenon in question. It also goes onto say that he
found the brake pedal to go straight to the floor after the pit crew
installed a fresh set of pads.

Why would the pedal go straight to the floor with green fade? I would assume
this to be the case with fluid fade but why with green fade. If the cause is
green fade and the fluid is fine, I don't see what component of the braking
system was compressible enough that the pedal went straight to the floor as
if the hydraulics failed.

This is the link in question:

I hope no one gets all sensitive and starts calling me blasphemous for
questioning Kojima. I just want to understand the mechanics behind green
fade and why it does what it does.
