i just installed my header from hotshot about 4 weeks ago, heres what i
noticed..
first of all, i ordered a new head to header gasket from courtesy thinking
that the hotshot one wouldn't come with it. when the box from hotshot came,
i noticed they included a gasket. IIRC, the hotshot gasket had bigger holes
in order to match the openings in the primary. the gasket was also made out
of a different material (like a paper/cardboard that felt almost waxy). i
figured if there was any of the gasket that was in the path of the exhaust,
it would eventually burn away, giving a great, unrestricted opening. IMHO, i
would use the one hotshot sent in the kit.
as far as the copper gasket goes, i would use that to. the header is
manufactured to have the coper gasket fit in along the 2 runners. one of
those bolts is a PITA to get to, so you might have to be inventive, or get a
swivel head socket extension. i recommend putting the nut on the bottom, so
you can lay under the car (properly supported of course :-) ) and attack it
that way. i think its the bolt that is near the engine.
i used nissan OEM gaskets for the cat. these are a little pricey, and look
like they could rust. for the money, you would probably be better off going
to the local auto store and getting new ones that are pretty generic.
one problem i did have was that my exhaust hanger (the elaborate one that is
bolted to the cat using the two studs that hold the cat and secondary
together) was rusted pretty much beyond use. you might want to look at
yours. i bought another one form the local dealer the other day. i paid
$20.20 and the part # is 20722-50Y00
