As long as the hole is not in the sidewall, go ahead and plug it.  I have had
very good luck with plugging holes and having them retain pressure just like a
new tire until the end of the tire's life.
I just use the plug kits that are found at K-Mart, Wal-Mart or Target.
Plan on the tire losing all of its pressure while you take out the screw, ream
the hole, and install the plug.
