Spark Plugs

I recently checked my spark plugs, due to my horrible gas mileage, and they
look to be burnt. I am running the NGK BKR6E's in my 91 SE-R. I was told at a
local auto parts store I should try running a hotter plug, the BKR5E.  Is
this acceptable?  I think there is a reason for the plugs to be burning, what
could it be?  Also, are the BKR5E and the BKR5E-11 the same, because no one
around can get the BKR5Es in but they have the 5E-11s.   Thanks for the help!
