from Nissan's site:
"The name Murano is inspired from the highly desired, elegantly sculptured
glassware that comes from the islands near Venice bearing the same name - a
fitting reflection of the vehicle's concept and design"

An "urban SUV" named after a type of glass? SUV's are supposed to be tough,
not fragile like its namesake Curiosity got the best of me and according to
the translation I received on babelfish.altavista.com, murano means wall in
Italian.
I'd choose another name, especially if they plan to sell it in any Spanish
speaking countries. M-U-R-A-N-O is really close in spelling and sounds too
much like M-A-R-R-A-N-O which means pig/hog. Not really a great choice in
either language.
It reminds me of the mistake Chevrolet made when they sold the Nova in
Mexico. No Va (translation: no go, doesn't go). Needless to say, the public
didn't race in to buy those until they changed the name.
