Missing Clear Coat Paint

I recently went to a driving school and had to put some numbers on my car.
I was told Duct tape would be OK but decided to use some cheap and less
sticky electrical tape.  I just washed my car and noticed that two places
are missing part of the clear coat.  I don't really know that the electrical
tape pulled off the paint.  I have some factory touchup paint that I can use
to seal the edges.  Are there any other/better options?  The missing clear
coat is only the size of the eraser head.
