This information comes from a guy who "Controls the advertising
checkbook of several major automotive brands," not from my own contact
with Fox, so take it for what it's worth, but...

The primary goal of infusing NASCAR programming is to displace the water
and air components of the old Speedvision. By showing NASCAR, and thus
maximizing the number of watched hours, they can also get rid of a good
portion of the Infomercials that were necessary to keep revenue up.
This means:

NASCAR, though somewhat boring to some segments, is not a bad thing in
and of itself. It's a GREAT thing. It will maximize their
subscribership, also exposing people who ordered it "Just for the NASCAR
coverage" to forms of autosports they're not familliar with, thus
opening the doors to an even broader sponsorship base and subsequent
cashflow to sponsor new series' and coverage of series' not currently
covered.

NASCAR will *not*, contrary to popular misconception, reduce current
coverage of WRC, F1, various SCCA, various other FIA, or any other types
of auto racing. Looking at the current air schedule supports this
idea. The boats and planes just *had* to go, though, due to the fact
that they don't make as much money as NASCAR. As in, not even in the
same league, let alone ballpark. It's a win-win situation, and NASCAR
is there to stay. Open your eyes to the broader picture, or get over
it.
