timing chain q

ARGH! Well, I finally got into timing mode, but my timing light
fell onto the grage floor and broke! I'm never going to get this
car fixed!

Anyway, is it possible for the timing chain to be too tight?
The car feels hesitant to start and it seems to stop rather
abruptly. Maybe it was always like that and I just never
noticed.

The reason I ask is because when I fixed the chain timing, I
left the timing chain tensioner in the car and zip tied the
chain to the intake cam sprocket. I then removed the exhaust cam
sprocket, placed it on the chain correctly and zip tied it. I
then positioned it on the cam correctly and tightened the
sprocket back on. I didn't let the sprocket fall or anything.

I can pull the tensioner and put it back in to let it
re-tension itself, but I'm wary of doing that because I don't
want the cams to skip a tooth again.

Thanks,
 Ben
