installing a tach

the archives say the pin coming out of the ecu to the stock tach is
different than for an aftermarket. why is that? and how come i can't hook
them up together? would i still get interference if i tap into the pin going
into the ecu from the distributor? thanx!

It may be better to use the tach output signal from the ECU which is pin 2
on my diagram (for 91-92 Sentras). You don't want to start tapping into the
distributor wires because they are shielded and sensitive to noise. When you
tap into them, you will add a lot of EMI to them. If your year is different,
verify pin 2 is the tach output before hooking it up.
