A strange fuel/spark issue

Sorry for the late reply, but I was going to say that a stuck injector 
sounds most plausible. A properly working ignition won't be able to 
light off the mixture, and you'll get the fuel running down the front if 
the head gasket isn't perfectly sealed.

Congrats on the Saab, and for getting the SE-R back on the road after 
such a long wait. I have had rod knock enough times to know it when I 
hear it, and at one time I was overly sensitive to the noise and found a 
minor rattle at ~5k RPM that I started to worry about. After a few 
months, I finally narrowed it down to a loose alternator pivot bolt! =D
You never know...
