belt whining

today I replaced the water pump, crank pulley, and front crank seal on my
G20. When the car is running, there is a whining coming from the belt area.
The two things I can think of that could be causing it are:

1) one or another of the belts is too tight, or not tight enough.
This seems unlikely to me - I marked the adjuster on the alternator belt
with a paint pen and it was easy to get it back to the same spot.
By the give in the belt, the PS belt seems correct also

2)misaligned crank pulley.
I wondered about this when I was pressing it back in - I did not measure
the location of the old one before I pulled it, so I did not know exactly
how far to press the new one in. I ended up looking at my SE-Rs for
reference, and pressing it in til the inner lip of the big pulley was
aligned with the tip of the timing indicator, as on my other two SR20 cars.
This left the washer face of the pulley a few millimeters or so out from
the nose of the crank, but bottoming it would have the pulley hitting the
front cover

Is a post belt-and-pulley-job whine likely to be caused by one of these two
things, or something else I haven't thought of yet?

David
