EGR and emissions problems

I think it depends on the car. The FSM for a '96 Max says disconnect the
battery for 24 hours. I tried about 18 hours on a '96 200SX and no luck. I
ended up turning the screw on the ECU. I'm pretty sure the non-OBD2 cars
would erase if disconnected for a couple hours.
