It's not mandatory, but a good idea to.  They're prone to leaking with age
or after axle replacement.  They're cheap (only about $7/ea) but a pita to
replace with the tranny in the car.

If you keep the old ones, try not to drag or scrape the axle & its splines
over the seals during the job.
