Next summer I will hopefully be rebuilding a DET longblock. So far I have
Read Mike Kojima's Engine prep tips, George Roffe's "The Beast" writeup, and
my FSM. I have never rebuilt an engine before, but have disassembled them for
fun. I dont have all the tools ill need, like a piston ring compressor, or a
good micrometer. Where is a good place to buy these, or do you guys think it
would be cheaper in the end to have alot of the work done at a machine shop?
What about other supplies ill need, like cleaning solutions? Also, what do I
need to get balanced? I plan to reuse the rods, im not sure about the
pistons. I do plan to get them swain coated whether or not I buy new ones.
Any advice or tips you guys could give me would be great. I am sure I will
have many more questions, especially when I actually start rebuilding it. TIA
