I just got these tires on my car, previous tires where- OE crappy 205-65-15
Plowtenzas, then I had 235-40-18 Dunlop W10s- these sounded like some
Superswamper tires on your buddies Wrangler going down the highway, traction
always sucked. After those wore off I got a set of 235-40-18 Potenza Pole
Position S-O3- these where OK in the rain, and had stiff sidewalls for better
cornering than the W10s, traction was also tons better than the W10s but not
better than the following tires afterwards- next set of wheels I had 225-50-16
Yoko AVS Intermediates- at 50 bux each from TireRack I was supprised that the
AVS kicked the 4x as expensive Potenzas ass !! These tires had alot more
tracion compared to the SO3s and even stayed sticky till I had them down to
slicks. I decided to try out the new Yoko ES100s in 225-50-16 size, they where
alot more of a touring tire with long life than a sport tire, meaning the
tread was pretty stiff compared to the more rubbery feel of the AVS. Rain
traction was by far the best so far, and off the line traction was little
worse than the AVS. Another new set of wheels- new tires 245-45-17 Nitto 555
Extreme, they had pretty good tracion when new but lately they wore down to
almost nothing and I could do massive rolling 2nd gear burnouts, since I got a
really wide tire now I can't compare to the smaller size AVS cause it wouldn't
be fair, but I can say they handled better than the AVS. 2 weeks ago I bought
a set of the new Falken Azenis tires in 245-45-17 size on my current set of
wheels- Enkei RPO1s in 17x8.0 wheels. I can only say WOW, these things are
sticky, no more rolling burnouts in 1st from just stabbing the gas to the
floor while driving- considering I have a little more torque than a stock
BBird in an instant stock. The tires handle corners awesome, they don't squeal
or howl at all. It was half the price of the Potenzas... and worth every
penny. I just hope Falken still makes these tires next time I am buying a new
pair of shoes for my ride.
