What the heck is a "half shalft" anyway?  A complete CV axle assembly for
one side?  A portion thereof?

Even a "solid axle" & differential assembly in a RWD vehicle has two axle
assys for each side.

I seems like a nearly obsolete term;  suspect it may date back to the early
independent rear suspensions found on race and euro cars of a few decades
ago???  What's the real story?
