Help needed - CV failure?

Thanks for all the replies.  After being convinced that the problem was
the CV joint, I spent half a day tracking down an in-stock reman. axle.
When I went to replace the axle, I discovered the axle nut was loose!  I
tightened it back up and all the problems disappeared.  I just hope that
I did not damage the CV joints with the axle flopping around like that.
I think that I will go ahead and retorque the other axle nut while I'm
at it!
