Is this the late stages of rod knock?

What do the early ones sound like?

Here's the situation of buddy's car.

Car got new water pump.
Car started making clicking noise only under load.
Almost inaudible.
Taken to dealer. Diagnosis- needs tensioner...and timing chain
guides..maybe a chain..$1300 to start.
Car had dent in lower oil pan. Don't know if water pump install related.
Lower oil pan replaced.
Also, High pressure power steering hose leaking. Had hose replaced.
Clicking is getting louder.
Tensioner? Doesn't sound like it's from the valve train.
What does chain slap sound like?
Pulled VC. Tensioner still kept chain taut.
No wear on cams or rockers. Cleaned out oil tubes.
Checked engine bay. AIV had lost lower mounting bushing. Metal on metal.
Vibration making rattle noise? Insulated. Still there.
Low power steering fluid? FSM says pump can make a clicking noise when
fluid is low. Is that only at low speeds while turning?
Oil starvation from dent near pickup? Bearing gone bad?
Ran at idle, faint clicking. Pulled plugwires one at a time. Clicking
never went away or changed.

Opinions?

Car is a 91 with 130k. Mods, CAI.
Total miles since click started, less than 100.
Don't have a sound clip. Working on it though.
