Wrecked SE-R

I have lurked on the list (for the most part) since 1994. However, I
decided to post because my 1991 SE-R (163K miles, bought new) is likely to
be totaled by Allstate as a result of a near collision on July 21.

I swerved to avoid an inattentive driver in a Grand Marquis (apparently a
young woman), who wandered halfway in my lane, and ended up in a ditch. I
could have hit her (recommended course of action by the attending police
officer), but I prefer to avoid collisions if possible. My friends,
following behind me, were nearly taken out by the lunatic. The woman
driving in front of me had to swerve to avoid the Grand Marquis as well.

Incredibly, the Grand Marquis driver stopped temporarily, and then left the
scene of the accident before the Orchard Lake, MI (NW Detroit suburb) police
arrived (< 10 min. after the accident). The license plate # taken by a
witness was for a Jeep, so she may have made an error, or the wrong plate
may have been intentionally attached to the Grand Marquis.

The SE-R is drivable, with no severe unibody damage. However, the front
passenger-side rocker panel area is dented, as well as the rear
passenger-side quarterpanel near the taillights. The spoiler was ripped off
the trunk, and the trunk is loose from the hinges.

According to Autotrader.com, the car is worth $3000-3500 (intact). The
preliminary repair estimate by Fischer Body (Troy, MI) was $4000-5000, so
Allstate probably will not fix the car.

Possible replacements:

Impreza WRX
Sentra SE-R Spec V
1995-6 Q45
2002 Maxima
2003 CL Type-S
2002 G35
