Exhaust manifold problem SOLVED!

Someone correct me if I am wrong... but a possibility as to why the cat died
(and did not  get sucked up into the pistons causing scoring and excessive
oil consumption.. oops wrong SE-R) is because of the cracked manifold, IIRC
that can cause a very early death of a cat... I think the heat gets too
high?
Would a universal replacement work? why not get a high flow cat since you
have to replace?
