IIRC I just used some wire with alligator clips on either end.  Clip one to
some bare metal on the car and the other to a good ground.  I think I
connected to my garage door rails.

As for you, clip it wherever you are comfortable. ;-)

Oh, and I used latex gloves while fishing around inside the tank.
