Okay guys here's the trick to get your car to pass
smog. My friend got his car to pass on the dyno at
a California Test Only Center. This was on a 92 SE-R
with a Primera engine with a US spec intake manifold
still containing all the emissions crap. The car has
the Hotshot 3rd generation headers, Greddy cat back
exhaust, UOR racing pulleys, and a JWT ECU. When he
started his NOx was up at 3610 ppm @ 15MPH and 2311
ppm at 25Mph and HCs were at 195 ppm at 15 MPH and
178 ppm at 25MPH. Since the car had the Hotshot
headers on, he managed to fit the stock exhaust
manifold cover over the headers and it made it passed
the visual smog test. Nest, he trapped air pressure in
the hose between the BPT and the EGR tube so that the
BPT stays open all the time allowing vacuum to reach
the EGR whenever vacuum is present, he blew in the
hose and at the same time he stuck a piece of plastic
in there to trap air pressure in the hose with his
mouth. This trick will bring the NOx way down since
their is more exhaust gases introduced back into the
engine.
Next, he trapped vacuum in the vacuum hose that
plugs into the PAIR (AIV) valve so that the valve
stays open allowing fresh air to always go into the
exhaust manifold (headers) as the car is revved up for
the smog test. This will bring the Hydrocarbons way
down since their is more fresh air to burn the
Hydrocarbons in the catalytic converter. All this got
the NOx down to 80 ppm @ 15 MPH and 99 ppm @ 25 MPH.
The HCs were at 48 ppm @ 15 MPH and 35 ppm @ 25 MPH,
and VOILA!instant passing grade for the California
Smog Test at a smog Test Only Center where they are
anal just like the California smog referee.
