Every spring I douse the inside of my rims with PBlaster! (or whatever
it's called), let it dissolve the brake dust and tar, scrub them down
with a rag soaked in the stuff, then wash them thoroughly with a good
degreaser.  I follow up with compound to remove any remaining stains.
My wheels still look brand new after 4 years of use!
