Green fade question

Read the passage and it says very clearly that
CHANGING THE PADS makes the pistons retract because
you must retract the pistons to change pads!

Not saying this is the cause, but if the pads/piston
retracted from the
rotor, the pedal would go to the floor since the first
brake
application
would be needed to take up this space.

Can't see how green fade would cause the pads and
pistons to retract
though.
