Start Racing and you will be enlightened. Do some track days and you will be
enlightened.
It is better to live then die:)  You go into a corner too fast you can lose
it spin, mess up at the very least you will not have good exit speed coming
out of a corner. Go in a little slower and you are more under control and
can start accelerating earlier and come out faster.  The most important part
on a race track is the the corners leading too and exiting the straightaway.
That is where you make up the most time. The faster you come out of the
corner, the faster you go on the straight, the more time you make up on a
lap.
