I just figured out something.

I was putting in a CD player that had an option to variable dim the unit.
But I couldn't get it to work.  I now know why?  You couldn't connect the
wires to the variable ground and power wire as Mark described.

But on a bulb at a gauge, what Mark says makes perfect since. DOH!  I was
still thinking about just connecting one of the wires.

but on the cd player, since you can't connect the ground to that variable
ground, it wouldn't work
