Shifter bushing ??

Has anyone put a shifter bushing in and had troubles?

I tried replacing my shifter stabilizer bushing and there was this big bolt
in the way.  This bolt is about 4 inches long, it goes through some type of
mount for the engine or tranny, whichever.  I read through the manual and it
didn't even say anything about that bolt.  I am just wondering if anybody
else has ran into this problem and if so what did you do to eventually
replace the bushing?
