Cold start problems with a 93 G20

Back in December I posted a lengthy saga of cold start problems with my
fiancee's G20. The key passage was "The first time our mechanic said it was
badly flooded, so he changed the plugs and told us to only give it 1/3
throttle when starting in the cold. The second time I pulled the plugs,
which were wet and let it sit overnight with them out and it started in the
morning. I talked to the Infiniti dealer and they said to not give it any
throttle when starting, but if it won't start, to floor the throttle and
crank and crank without turning the key back and forth. The mechanic said
turning the key on and off will flood it."

General opinion on the list seemed to be that no throttle should be used on
starting. However, a lengthy conversation with the Infiniti dealer leads to
the following advice.
1) 1/3-1/2 half throttle when starting in the cold.
2) If it doesn't start, floor it and crank until it does. Don't turn the
key back and forth. (we haven't had a chance to try this yet as it hasn't
flooded out on us)

This advice has been working for us for the past several weeks. We also ran
2 cans (I added one and the dealer added another even though I told them not
to) BG44K additive and the dealer performed a "carbon flush" of the intake
system. Hopefully our problems won't come back.

I am also attaching (with permission) a mail that discusses this behavior.

Thanks all,
	Ted

I had the same problem with my 95 J30 it snowed here in Utah so my wife did
not drive the car for two days since it is rear wheel drive and does not do
good in snow. when we went out to start teh car it would not turn over. I
was about to have my car towed to a shop and mentioned it to a co worker who
ownes a g20 she said that she has had the same problem when it snows she has
had it in the shop several times for the problem and has spent 100's of
dollars and still has had this problem . She told me that when it snows and
you are not going to drive start the car and let it run for 5 to 10 min and
you should be fine. She also told me that if it won't start to put your
foot on the gas peddle about half way do not pump and turn on key and leave
it on for about 1 to 2 min and don't let up and don't pump the gas you will
think that your battery is about to die and at that moment your car will
start so I tried it after I gave my battery a
good charge an guess what it started. so when it snows and we are not going
to drive we will start the car and let it run for a few min. and so far we
have not had any more problems knock on wood. I hope this will help out any
one with this problem . PS when it rains we have had no problem but then
again we drive it when it rains and we don't let the car sit
