Not really. You cannot assume fix percentage for it. HP loss in the
drivetrain is basically energy that is transfered into heat (friction),
noise, etc. If there were a percentage for it, say 20% for FWD car, this
would mean Shaggy's 500 WHP (approx) 200SX would have 625 Crank HP to
begin with. And that's 125 HP lost into heat (mostly). With this amount of
power, hence heat, you will burn and evaporate your tranny fluids in no
time.

If there were to be a common ground on this, I think a specific HP number
should be more appropriate than percentage of total crank power.

You are missing the dyno chart. Torque and HP numbers cited are from
different places. Different engines produce different curves. People just
cite maximum numbers from different part of the power band.
